The Rolex Yellow Gold Day-Date Special Edition 39 (Ref. 18948) is part of the Day-Date line. The Day-Date was launched in 1956 as the first wristwatch to show both the date and the day of the week spelled out in full, and it is made only in gold and platinum. This reference has a 39mm case in 18k yellow gold. Rolex casts its own 18k gold in-house, so the colour stays consistent from case to bracelet.
Its mother-of-pearl diamond dial is cut from natural mother-of-pearl, so every dial has its own pattern, and has diamond hour markers. It is framed by a bezel set with brilliant-cut diamonds. The watch is fitted with the Pearlmaster bracelet with rounded five-piece links and a concealed Crownclasp.
The movement is the in-house Rolex caliber 3155, which runs for about 48 hours once fully wound. It is an officially certified chronometer, tested by COSC for accuracy. The screw-down crown and sapphire crystal keep it water resistant to 100 meters.
