The Day-Date was launched in 1956 as the first wristwatch to show both the date and the day of the week spelled out in full, and it is made only in gold and platinum. Its 36mm case is crafted in 18k yellow gold. The gold is cast in Rolex's own foundry, which controls its colour and quality.
