The Rolex Platinum Day-Date 40 carries reference 228236. The Day-Date was launched in 1956 as the first wristwatch to show both the date and the day of the week spelled out in full, and it is made only in gold and platinum. Its 40mm case is crafted in 950 platinum. 950 platinum is heavier and rarer than gold, which is why Rolex uses it only for its top models.
Its bright black index dial uses applied index hour markers. Around the dial sits a fluted 950 platinum bezel. It is worn on the President bracelet with semi-circular three-piece links and a concealed Crownclasp.
The movement is the in-house Rolex caliber 3255, which runs for about 70 hours once fully wound. It is certified as a Superlative Chronometer, Rolex's standard of accuracy within −2/+2 seconds per day once cased. The screw-down crown and sapphire crystal keep it water resistant to 100 meters.
