Reference 228345 is the Rolex Everose Gold Day-Date 40. The Day-Date was launched in 1956 as the first wristwatch to show both the date and the day of the week spelled out in full, and it is made only in gold and platinum. The 40mm case is made of 18k Everose gold. Everose is Rolex's own pink gold alloy, made in its foundry so the colour does not fade over time.
The Eisenkiesel dial is made from eisenkiesel, a red quartz stone. It is framed by a fluted 18k Everose gold bezel. The case is paired with the President bracelet with semi-circular three-piece links and a concealed Crownclasp.
The movement is the in-house Rolex caliber 3255, which runs for about 70 hours once fully wound. Every movement of this generation is tested as a Superlative Chronometer, accurate to within −2/+2 seconds a day. The screw-down crown and sapphire crystal keep it water resistant to 100 meters.
